01 · Overview
An M3 with a fire extinguisher
The M3 GTS is the first of the two limited-series derivatives of the E92 M3 and the more radical of the two. BMW bored the S65 from 3,999 to 4,361 cubic centimeters — not via the bore, but via the stroke, which grew from 75.2 to 82.0 millimeters. Result: 450 PS at 8,300 revolutions and 440 Nm at 3,750.
The rest is consistent reduction. No rear seats, no audio system, bucket seats, Alcantara, polycarbonate rear windows, carbon fiber roof. As standard, a bolted-in roll bar behind the B-pillars, which can be expanded into a full cage, plus a fire extinguisher and preparation for an emergency kill switch. Six-point harnesses for racing use, three-point automatic seatbelts for the road.
On the production numbers, BMW contradicts itself: BMW M and both Wikipedias state 150 vehicles, the BMW PressClub release for the 30th M3 anniversary states 135. We leave both figures standing.

The engine
S65B44 · 4.361 cm³ · 450 PS verified
The displacement increase of the S65 came via the stroke: 82.0 instead of 75.2 millimeters with an unchanged bore of 92.0 millimeters. This results in 4,361 instead of 3,999 cubic centimeters and 450 instead of 420 PS, each at 8,300 revolutions. The GTS was offered exclusively with the seven-speed M-DKG dual-clutch transmission. Sources differ slightly on torque: BMW states 440 Nm, German Wikipedia 444.

Motorsport
The GTS is a street-legal limited-series vehicle, not a race car — despite the cage, fire extinguisher, and six-point harnesses. The actual race cars of the model line are the M3 GT2, the M3 GT4, and the M3 DTM.
09 · Buying guide
What to look for when buying
With 150 or 135 units built, the key question is less about condition than complete documentation.
The new price of 136,850 euros stated by German Wikipedia is only singly sourced; we found no BMW confirmation for it.
