The sensible 8 Series
In 1993, BMW added the 840Ci alongside the V12: initially with the 4.0-litre M60 (286 PS), from 1996 with the 4.4-litre M62 at the same output but more torque. Around 130 kg lighter on the front axle, it was considered by many testers to be the more coherent driver’s car.
Today, the 840Ci is the accessible way into the model line — with significantly simpler maintenance than the twelve-cylinder.
