The modern drivetrain in the classic 7 Series
The E32 only received its eight-cylinder in 1992: the 740i with the new M60B40 (286 PS) replaced the inline-six 735i at the top below the V12. With the five-speed automatic, it was the model line’s most modern drivetrain — but only for two years, until the E38 took over.
Built as the 740i and the long-wheelbase 740iL, it is today significantly rarer than the six-cylinders — and the model line’s insider tip.
