01 · Überblick
The heart of the model line
With the switch to the M52 generation in 1995, the E36 received its most mature six-cylinders: the 323i (actually 2.5 litres, 170 PS) and the 328i (2.8 litres, 193 PS). Both were available in all body styles — Sedan, Coupé, Touring, Convertible.
The 328i was the secret sporty choice with 280 Nm, the 323i the value-for-money pick. Today both are the most affordable way into a classic straight-six — with ample parts availability.
