01 · Überblick
The V12 for the last analogue era
The 750i crowned the E38 with the M73 V12: 5.4 litres, 326 PS, 490 Nm — designed for absolute smoothness rather than top figures. Usually ordered as the long-wheelbase 750iL, it was the car of state limousines, executives — and of James Bond in “Tomorrow Never Dies”.
Today the V12 E38 is a collector’s piece with a limited market: fascinating engineering, but double peripherals (two engine control units, two throttle bodies) and correspondingly higher running costs.
